Ten Great Plants
This comes from a handout I received long ago at a Montessori workshop entitled, "Ten Great Plants for the Montessori Classroom." I would like to give credit to whomever put this together but they did not give a citation. They describe each of the plants and a little about taking care of them. I am only going to list the plants. I'm sure you will be able to find out all sorts of information on them from the wonderful world-wide web.
1.) African-Violet (Saintpaulia ionantha)
2.) Air Plant ( Tillandsia cynea)
3.) Coleus (Coleus blumei)
4.) Hen and Chickens ( Sempervivum montanum)
5.) Jade Plant (Crassula)
6.) Kalanchoe (Kalanchoe blossfeldiana)
7.) Mother-in-law's Tongue or Snake Plant (Sansevieria trifasciata laurenti)
8.) Pitcher Plant (Sarracenia)
9.) Rubber Plant (Ficus elastica)
10.) Spider Plant (Chlorophytum elatum)
Here is a link to Safe Plants, this is a list of plants generally believed to be safe. Remember to keep the number for poision control handy.
